When using the Wallet app and importing a file, such as a bank statement, that contains various transaction details like payee, note, and more, the app employs an auto-categorization feature based on the information provided in the "note" and potentially the "payee" fields.
However, it's important to note that if you already have categorized transactions from previous apps or Wallet apps, we regret to inform you that the current version of the Wallet app does not support the direct uploading of these categorized transactions.
To address this limitation, we have developed a workaround solution for our users. Within the import wizard, users can now designate a specific column as the "note" column and set up automatic rules for categorization.
For example, let's consider a scenario where a user has transactions with a "category" column that includes values such as "restaurants" and "shopping." To ensure accurate categorization, the user can create automatic rules using keywords and the existing "category" values:
- Keyword: "restaurants" Rule: Category = "restaurant"
- Keyword: "shopping" Rule: Category = "shopping"
Next, the user navigates to the import wizard and designates the "category" column as the "note" column. By doing so, the transactions will be appropriately categorized based on the predefined rules.
We believe that this workaround solution will enable users to categorize their transactions effectively, even if they have previously categorized transactions from other apps or Wallet applications.
Note: Please keep in mind that this behavior may be subject to future updates and improvements to enhance the user experience within the Wallet app.
