FAQ
What are categories and how do I use them?
Categories help you see how much you’re spending on particular items, such as rent, groceries, or entertainment. When you add a Record in Wallet, assign a category. Categorizing your spending helps you see where your money goes and make the necessary adjustments to achieve your goals.
Why can't i add my own categories?
You can rename the main categories or add your own sub-subcategory. You can even modify the nature of your categories with "must", "need" or "want" to show the importance of these categories. You can hide Wallet's categories if you do not use them.
The reason for which new categories cannot be added is that Wallet uses machine learning that works with structured data. If users added categories themselves the data would no longer be properly interpreted by the app and its features would return statistics that are not as accurate or relevant.
Tip: We also recommend using labels, which are very helpful in working with transactions.
Assigning a Category
When adding or editing a record, you must assign a category to it. Edit the transaction or tap on the category icon. Select the Main Category to view subcategory options. Choose your desired category, and save changes to your new record. The next time you need to assign a category, it will appear under the most used categories list.
Tip: Hiding a main category will automatically hide all of its subcategories.
Tip: Easily bulk edit your records to apply a category to multiple records at once.
I cannot delete my sub-subcategory
If the sub-subcategory is currently in use, deletion is not possible until it's removed from all associated records, budgets, planned payments, etc. You can use the filter feature to locate records with the sub-subcategory and change its category from those records. Alternatively, the web version provides an accurate error message indicating where the sub-subcategory is still in use, allowing you to find and delete it.
