How to Connect SMS Sync to Wallet (and Track Your Payments):
- On the main screen, tap Add new account (+).
- Select SMS Sync.
- Tap Start setup and follow the guided steps:
- Turn on SMS Wallet notifications.
- Check battery restrictions: Allow Wallet to run without battery optimization/restrictions, so your phone doesn't stop it in the background.
- Enable Autostart (only on some devices, currently Xiaomi and Vivo): Allow Wallet to autostart. Without it, the system can block Wallet from reading notifications.
- Grant notification access to Wallet app: Allow Wallet to read your notifications. This is required to detect transactions from Google Pay.
- Your account is created automatically: You don't need to create or select an account. Wallet creates (or selects) it for you automatically, and it is always named SMS Pay.
- Done! Now, whenever you pay using Google Pay, your transactions will automatically appear in Wallet.
✅ Important: For this to work properly, you must also have notifications enabled for SMS Notification app in your phone’s system settings (Different Android devices have different settings and paths).
FAQ
What's the difference between connecting SMS Pay and connecting a bank account?
SMS Pay:
- Transactions appear immediately in Wallet.
Bank Account:
- Transactions are imported with a delay (depending on the bank).
- You’ll see all activity – including transfers, withdrawals, etc.
The service isn’t working – what should I check?
If your SMS Pay transactions are not showing in Wallet, try the following:
✅ Notification access
- Make sure Wallet has permission to read notifications (not just to show them).
⚙️ Battery optimization
Some Android devices (e.g. , Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei) can block background services even if permissions are granted:
- Samsung: Settings > Apps > Wallet > Battery > Unrestricted
- Xiaomi: Settings > Battery > Battery saver > Wallet > No restrictions
Enable autostart for Wallet (e.g. MIUI):
- Go to: Settings > Apps > Wallet > Autostart > Enable
Allow background activity:
- Settings > Apps > Wallet > Battery saver > Allow background activity
📵 Device-specific restrictions
In systems like MIUI or EMUI, ensure "Keep running in background" and "Allow autostart" are enabled, and battery optimization is disabled for Wallet.
Only some records are being imported into the app:
Wallet can only record transactions based on notifications sent by the SMS app. If you don't receive a notification on your phone, Wallet cannot record it. Some online payments or specific terminals might not trigger a notification.
My transactions show a value of 0 in Wallet.
In some cases, Google flags transactions as sensitive. Try setting a nickname for your card in Google Wallet:
- Open Google Wallet.
- Select your card.
- Tap the three-dots menu > Add nickname.
- Assign a custom name.
Why do you need Notification access, and what does it allow?
We use it to detect and process Google Pay transactions. Read more here:
Why do I see duplicate transactions after connecting Google Pay?
If you have both your bank and Google Pay connected, the same transaction may be imported twice. To avoid duplicates, choose one preferred source and disconnect the other.
Why does the final amount differ when paying in a different currency?
Final Amount Variance:
When paying in a currency other than your default, the final amount may vary due to the bank's exchange rates or processing fees.
Original Currency:
The original amount and currency are usually listed in the Note field of the transaction.
Recommendations:
- Enable Automatic Rates: Keep "Automatic Exchange Rates" enabled in settings for better accuracy.
- Manual Update: Before traveling, manually update exchange rates in the app to reflect current market data.
